After learning about the experience of the Lille Soup Festival in France, the 9 Barris Acull and the Knowledge Exchange Network have organized the World Soup Festival since 2004 with the aim of promoting coexistence and relationships between neighbors.
Why a soup festival? First as an excuse to meet, and second because soup is a symbol of mixture and at the same time of difference, of something very specific and at the same time very universal. All soups share some basic elements—fire, water and pot, etc.—and from there the diversity is almost infinite: vegetables, meats, spices and everything that each town and each family has at hand. Soups are therefore essentially the same and yet unique—like people.
The festival is a good excuse to meet up your neighbors, to go out into the street and share culinary traditions from all over the world. There is nothing better than the warmth of soups to break the ice and to leave aside prejudices and stereotypes. Take the opportunity to get to know each other and come up with new initiatives together so that the current turmoil in the neighborhoods translates into better living conditions for everyone.
