The second silent, mask-based theater piece by this Basque company is a bittersweet comedy about the ravages of loneliness. 

The protagonist of Solitudes feels misunderstood because, like almost all elderly people for whom life has become little more than waiting, he now desires only simple things. Things so simple that others fail to recognize their true importance.

What is extraordinary about this story is that the old ma —contrary to what one might expect from someone whose life seems almost devoid of incentives—does not give in and does not give up on his small wishes; rather, he fights for them with determination and dignity. This, of course, will have consequences for him and for those around him.

Kulunka Teatro was founded in 2010 in Hernani, Gipuzkoa province, by actors Garbiñe Insausti and José Dault in order to experiment with different stage languages and make theater accessible to all kinds of audiences. Fifteen years later, Kulunka Teatro is a prominent company on the national theater scene with significant international projection, putting on around a thousand performances in thirty different countries. Their Forever was already presented at last year’s Barcelona Grec Festival, and is now back alongside by two other creations by the same artists: André & Dorine and Solitudes, which was the company’s second wordless theater creation and received a Max Award for Best Production and a Max Award for Best Musical Composition, both in 2018.
