Georges Bataille, in The Damned, defines being "wasteful" as the unproductive activity necessary for living well together.
Curated by Beatriz Escudero and Francesco Giaveri, the exhibition is part of the Curatorial Call program, and proposes an ironic and utopian approach to the notion of consumption.
The praise of waste is based on the notion of consumption according to George Bataille, in which he argues that the economy is not based on production and consumption but on spending as waste. Accepting waste as a necessary thing entails a reduction in work and articulates an alternative way of life in which laziness is valued.
The exhibition proposes a critique of contemporary hyperactivity and introduces the hope of a redistribution of resources and time able to rethink our habits. It brings together a collection of works — from painting to photography, installation, video and sculpture — by artists such as Priscila Fernandes, Ángela Ferreira, Alberto Gil Casedas, José María Guijarro, Sharon Lockhardt, Agnes Martin, Aernout Mik, Agustín Parejo School and Xavier Ribas, among others.
