Singin’ in the Rain, Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly, (United States, 1952)
Singin' in the Rain is much more than a classic musical. It is a testimony of an era, of one of the great revolutions in the audiovisual world: the arrival of talkies. Camouflaged as a musical, a romantic comedy (which it is, of course), this film reflects with a good dose of humor the transition from silent to sound, with its problems, its anecdotes, its vices and its virtues.
Despite being a work of fiction, it is known that the writers asked the studio workers to explain what happened backstage during that period. Only 22 years had passed since the arrival of sound, and the memory was still alive in the memory of many of them. The absurdity of some of the situations that dot the plot makes us laugh today, but it sure wasn't so funny for the professionals then who had to deal with a "primitive" sound system, called Vitaphone, with microphones that had to be camouflaged in the most unexpected places, and with shooting habits that were already incompatible with the new technology.
Film will be screened in original version subtitled in Catalan
