Schumann’s Piano Concerto, one of the most iconic works of Romanticism, will be performed by Dezsö Ránki under the baton of seasoned violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who is also a renowned conductor. The personality of the German composer radiates from start to finish in an emotionally intense work, and is complimented by the passion and skill of these talented musicians.
Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15 is much more playful, often quoting Rossini’s popular fast-paced William Tell overture. A work in four movements of unequal force, it premiered in 1972 under the baton of the composer’s son, alternating a wonderful orchestral strepitoso with the delicately agile beats of the percussion that disappear into silence.
Both of these works will be presented in a special night of classical music at one of the city’s most prestigious venues.
