Almost 60 years ago, in January 1966, Barcelona hosted a historic concert: the Duke Ellington Orchestra performed at the Palau de la Música Catalana. The impact was so great that the concert's promoter, Joan Roselló – who also owned Jamboree Jazz Club at the time – decided to launch what then became the Barcelona International Jazz Festival that same autumn.
To celebrate that historic moment, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band – which this year has been invited to form a part of the Essentially Ellington competition — proposes an anthological journey through the work of one of the greatest musicians in history, Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington.
The show will take place under the direction of Joan Chamorro.
