On 22, 23 and 24 September from 16:00 to 20:00, the Sagrada Família is holding its Open Doors Days during Barcelona’s La Mercè festivities. Anyone interested in attending the Open Doors Days can enter the drawing to win tickets using the form on the Sagrada Família website. The drawing will be held on September 18th, and the winners will be notified directly.
The Sagrada Família is preparing for this annual event, which aims to share the current state of the works with the people. This time, 15,000 people will have the chance to visit the Basilica for free and get a first-hand look at the sculptures of the tetramorph that will crown the tower of John and the tower of Matthew, which will finish off the grouping of the four towers of the Evangelists, and discover how they are being built.
New this year, visitors will get to discover spaces not open to the public, such as the cyma garden, inside the roofs and the inside of the tower of the Virgin Mary through an augmented reality experience on the official Sagrada Família app that will premiere for this occasion.
Celebrated September 22-25, 2023, the La Mercè festival program is packed with things to do and see. But if all the festivities of La Mercè get to be a bit too much, why not take a culture break?
Many of the city’s museums observe the holiday with a jornada de portes obertes (open doors). Check out our interactive map with all the locations that are throwing open their doors for free: Map of Barcelona Museums with Free Entry for La Mercè.
