The idea for an AIDS memorial quilt was born in the US back in 1987; the objective was to put a human face to the mass of statistics relating to the epidemic that has killed many thousands of people in the past four decades.
To date, more than 70,000 panels have been added to the quilt by relatives and friends of those who've died. In 1993, it came to Catalunya for the first time, and it is this anniversary that is being marked here by the MNAC, as well as 19 other museums and landmarks around the city as well as a number of venues outside Barcelona.
