The Leipzig String Quartet has been distinguished as the "best German quartet" (Gramophone) amongst the most sought after and versatile groups of our time. Founded in 1988, three of its members worked as lead vocals in the well-known Gewandhaus Orchestra until 1993, when they decided to leave to spend more time focusing on chamber music.
The Leipzig String Quartet has received numerous awards so far. In 1991, they won the prestigious ARD International Competition in Munich and Brüder-Busch-Preis and in 1992 they were awarded the Siemens Music Prize.
Since 1991, the quartet has been organizing its own series of concerts "Pro Quatuor" in Leipzig. The quartet has performed in more than 40 countries in Europe, North and South America, Australia, Africa, and Asia. They have almost 90 CD recordings, interpreting artists from Mozart to Cage, Haubenstock-Ramati to Beethoven, and including complete recordings of works by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Second Vienna School.
This renowned quartet will be performing at Festival de Música de Cadaques, and we recommend you don't miss it!
