The wicked sorcerer Rothbart, who is half-human, half-animal, feels a deep loathing for Prince Sigfrid and uses one of the beautiful swans on whom he has cast a spell as bait to cause his downfall. Sigfrid and Odette fall in love but the sorcerer turns her into a swan. Death is imminent but love can conquer evil.
The acknowledged paradigm of ballet worldwide. First performed in 1877 at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre.
Music, deceit, love and sacrifice in an unreal, magical setting, with a tragic, emotion-charged ending: the ballet company of the Prague Opera dances the timelessly Romantic love story of Swan Lake at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Based on the original work by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.
