Summer brings the Poble Espanyol In-Edit sessions, the International Musical Documentary Film Festival of Barcelona. Unique outdoor screenings to enjoy the first documentary jewels that make up the renowned Festival In-Edit schedule. Outdoor music and cinema... a perfect combination, don't you think?
On August 27th, John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky (2018) will close the festival's program. The definitive chronicle of the recording of the album Imagine is also an intimate portrait of the day to day life and the political awakening of Lennon with Yoko Ono.
Above Us Only Sky introduces us to John and Yoko in 1970, installed in their brand new Gregorian mansion in Tittenhurst Park (Ascot), far from London, from the press and the past Beatle. Organizing, contextualizing and dusting off the unpublished shots of the film Imagine and the documentary Gimme Some Truth, the film tells in detail how they shaped their second and iconic album: from the construction of their private music studio for the creation of the songs by the hand of George Harrison, the producer Phil Spector and old comrades like Alan White and Klaus Voorman. Through a huge amount of archive material and the testimony of photographers, gardeners, journalists and personal assistants, it also narrates how John's life was, Yoko and his son Julian in the English countryside, as well as his political and pacifist activism awakening. An authentic jewel, even for the most informed "Beatlemaniac."
