Picasso and the artist jewellery
From May 8th to September 13th, the Picasso Museum will present the exhibition Picasso and the Artist's Jewelry. Picasso was a man of many talents, which he demonstrated through paintings, sculptures, engravings, ceramics, decorations and even poetry. There are few artistic practices that Pablo Picasso didn't experiment with during his lifetime. In Spring of 2020, the Picasso Museum of Barcelona will focus on one of his lesser-known mediums in an exhibition dedicated to his artistic jewelry designs.
From shell necklaces made for Dora Maar in 1937, to authentic goldsmith work from the 1960s, to ceramic pieces modeled in Madoura's workshop, jewelry was for Picasso a field that opened up a new range of possibilities.
The exhibition also presents a selection of works from one of the most important international jewelry collections: from surrealism to contemporary productions, from André Derain to Niki de Saint-Phalle to Miquel Barceló, from Lucio Fontana to Louise Bourgeois, this collection of jewelry is an array of masterpieces.
