Film still from "On the Sea" directed by Helen Walsh (UK, 2025).
Jack has been married to Maggie for more than half his life. He works as a mussel picker on the North Wales mussel beds with his younger brother, Dyfan, and Maggie’s three children. Jack has always assumed that his son, Tom, will join the family business when he leaves school, but Tom’s reluctance to follow in his footsteps creates tension in the family. The situation is exacerbated by the arrival of a wandering sailor, Daniel, who reveals his feelings for Jack. In his remote rural community, where life revolves around church and fishing, Jack faces an impossible dilemma. On the Sea is a beautiful, sensual and sometimes tragic exploration of masculinity, place and desire.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish.
A film in the 2026 edition of Mostra FIRE!! Film Festival.
