Published in 1958, Catalogue d'oiseaux is Olivier Messiaen’s most extensive work after his opera Saint François d'Assise. This landmark of 20th-century piano literature showcases the French composer’s masterful integration of his three main compositional elements: rhythm, sound-color relationships and birdsong. The score is a vivid tapestry of transcribed birdsongs and evocative depictions of natural landscapes, immersing the listener in a rich and imaginative musical universe.
Gregorio Benítez has been praised by international critics for his "hypnotic stage presence and extraordinary palette of keyboard colors." At the Palau, the pianist presents a selection of the most representative pieces from Catalogue d'oiseaux, as part of an extensive tour dedicated to the complete solo piano works of Olivier Messiaen.
