French vocalist, producer and composer Oklou's debut album Choke Enough was released on February 7th via True Panther. Its title track captures the essence of the project: a search for meaning and a deep desire to feel something—whether it’s a life-changing realization or just a fleeting, everyday moment.
Oklou's debut album is a reflection on the subconscious and conscious demands of an artistic psyche, as well as existing and creating in a brief and transient life. The album is filled with warm production, pairing ambient sounds with minimal club rhythms, delicate synthesizer arpeggios and found sound samples.
Born as Marylou Mayniel in the countryside of Western France, Oklou began her musical journey with classical piano and cello lessons before discovering her passion for electronic music and turning to production.
Following two EPs —For the Beasts (2017) and The Rite of May (2018)— Mayniel gained international recognition, propelled by collaborations with Mura Masa, A. G. Cook and EASYFUN (the latter two known for producing Charli XCX’s Brat). This success culminated in her full-length mixtape Galore in 2020. Her rise continued with international tours, including support slots for Oneohtrix Point Never and Caroline Polachek, as well as a celebrated feature with Flume.
