Ohlalà French Film Festival 2024
to
Institut Français Carrer Moià 8, 08006 Barcelona
This year welcomes the 6th edition of Ohlalà!, the first film festival in Barcelona dedicated to French language films from around the world. In addition to selecting a special guest from the world of cinema to highlight, the festival also brings to Barcelona directors of some of the films programed to present their films in person.
The festival features over 20 feature-length films divided into two sections: the official section of unreleased films that will premiere at the festival, and a retrospective dedicated to a specific French-speaking director. Each year, the films come from countries that make up the Francophone world, including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Maghreb, parts of Africa, Quebec and beyond.
The 2024 program has not been announced, but you can take a look at what was showing last year to get an idea of what's in store for the next edition.
Last Year's Program
The week opened with Louis Garrel's L’innocent (2022, France) a comedy in which a son learns that his mother is about to marry a man in prison, so he panics. He will do everything to try to protect her, but on meeting with his new father-in-law he gains a new perspective. Other titles include Mon légionnaire by Rachel Lang (2022, France) La Mif by Fédéric Baillif and Stéphane Mitchell (2021, Switzerland), Tom à la ferme by Xavier Dolan and Michel Marc Bouchard (2013, Canada) and Céline Devaux's Tout le monde aime Jeanne (2022, France).
This guest of honor was director and film critic Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival and director of the Institut Lumière in Lyon. He presented Dans la nuit (1929), the last film of French silent cinema. Films are shown in original version with Spanish or Catalan subtitles.
