Film still from "O Ancoradouro do Tempo," directed by Sol de Carvalho (Mozambique, 2023).
Izidine, a newly graduated police inspector, arrives to investigate a crime at an elderly care home located in what was once a colonial fortress. Vasto Excelencio, its director, has been murdered. Marta, the home’s nurse tries to steer the investigation to the real crime: the home’s very existence. But upon interviewing the residents, Izidine is confronted with a surprise: all the residents confess that they are the murderer. He learns that the director was abusive to the residents, beat his wife and was having an affair with a nurse who he forced to have an abortion, and the inspector slowly discovers that the crime was committed out of revenge.
O Ancoradouro do Tempo is a crime film that challenges the conventions of the genre, where suspects usually deny their guilt, and that addresses issues such as collective memory, justice and the aftermath of colonialism.
Film will be screened in original version (Changane, Chissena, Makwua, Makonde, Tsonga, Portuguese) with subtitles in Catalan.
A film in the 2025 edition of Wallay! African Film Festival.
