The starting point of this new solo presented by Núria Guiu, winner of the 2022 National Culture Award, is her graduation project for her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and Human Evolution. It begins as a performed lecture in which, attentive as always to the digital world and using a social media acronym as its title (Point of View), she speaks about exaggeration and the hyperbole of young social media users and marketing campaigns. Through projections and cameras, the initial lecture gradually develops into a full-blown performance, combining irony with vulnerability. It asks whether this hyperbole might somehow be linked to the 19th-century concept of “hysteria.” POV reflects a culture of visual excess, where discomfort often becomes spectacle, and explores the tension between what “we should be” and what we can actually sustain. Guiu investigates these themes through photographs from the Salpêtrière Hospital in 19th-century Paris. Jean-Martin Charcot, a neurologist, sought to systematize, classify, pathologize, and photograph bodies, shapes, and movements generated by “hysteria.” He created a list of postures that has since inspired various artists, choreographers, and dancers.

Born in Mollet del Vallès and based in Barcelona, Núria Guiu Sagarra has performed with companies including Cullberg Ballet, Gisèle Vienne, Carte Blanche Dance Company, Ingri Fiksdal, Jasmin Vardimon, La Veronal, and Kobalt Works. Her artistic practice focuses on exploring the relationship between bodies, images, and power from a personal, sociocultural, and anthropological perspective, particularly in relation to digital environments, memory, and emotions. Her works include Likes (selected for the European platform Aerowaves 2018), Spiritual Boyfriends (performed at the 2020 Grec Festival), Cyberexorcisme, MEDIUM and SUPERMEDIUM (both collaborations with Norwegian choreographer Ingri Fiksdal).

Event will be held in English on July 9th and in Catalan on July 10th and 11th.
