If you want to get your first taste of the vibrant new British jazz scene, there's nothing better than following the trail that Nubya Garcia has been blazing over the past five years. The London saxophonist is something like a dotted line that has connected a generation of musicians who have pushed the genre out of its niche: Shabaka Hutchings, Nala Sinephro, Tom Skinner, Joe Armon-Jones and Moses Boyd. Garcia has played or collaborated with all of them while building a career of her own, full of break outs into other sounds. Her two albums, Sourced and Odyssey, are jazz but are also many other things: neo-classical, R&B, dub and even cumbia. New jazz, new classics.
After winning a Mercury Prize nomination for best British album of the year and opening for Khruangbin at several concerts in the United States, Nubya Garcia opens a new stage with Odyssey, her second album.
