Noko Woi lands inBarcelona to present the new direction they’ve been charting in recent months. After two albums in English, the project led by Salvador Sobral and Leo Aldrey now explores more tropical territories, incorporating songs in Spanish and Portuguese for the first time.
Noko Woi means “listen around” in Warao, a native Venezuelan language. That’s what their first two albums are about: an attempt to bring together different sources of inspiration: “places we come from, places we are, people we’ve met, who we are, ideas people have shared, ideas we’ve found.”
Immersive atmospheres, sharp funk guitars, and rhythms that evoke tropical landscapes are fundamental ingredients in the music of Noko Woi, an indie rock band formed in Barcelona in 2014.
The compositions of keyboardist and producer Leo Aldrey take shape in the voice and infectious energy of Salvador Sobral, winner of Eurovision 2017, accompanied by Juan Berbín on drums, Juan Daniel González and Adolfo Bueno on guitars, and Frederic Font on bass. Luminous sounds where tropical rhythms, open harmonies, and a constant search for movement coexist—more than a break with the past, these new compositions represent an expansion of Noko Woi’s universe and a freer approach to what has always been present in the project: curiosity.
