In 1994, at the age of 22, Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky was winner of the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition. Twenty-five years later, Lugansky is now one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation. During his professional career he has collaborated with leading orchestras and conductors, and offers recitals at major venues around the world.
Lugansky will conclude his concert with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in A major, op. 101, thus paying tribute to one of the most admired and influential composers of classical music of all time on the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth.
The concert repertoire also includes Prélude, Choral et Fugue by César Franck, one of the most interesting works in the French literature for piano of the 19th century; Sonata No. 3 by Alexander Scriabin, that he himself subtitled States of the Soul and which shows hints of the atonal language that would later make him famous; and a selection of Preludes, op. 23, by Sergei Rachmaninoff, which are little musical gems that encapsulate the composer’s lyrical passion.
