The New Year’s Concert, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, returns to revive popular melodies that form part of the collective imagination. The show features a generous selection from the ballet Swan Lake by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and powerful performances of waltzes by Johann Strauss (Jr), such as the Kaiser-Walzer (Emperor Waltz) and Unter donner und Blitz (Thunder and Lightening). The evening, directed by Beatriz Fernández, will also embrace the spirit of the celebration with the overture from Die Fledermaus (The Bat) and approach the broader appeal of folk music with the polonaise that Tchaikovsky composed for his opera Eugene Onegin.
