National Anthem, Luke Gilford (USA, 2024)
Dylan, a soft-spoken 21-year-old construction worker, is the de facto father figure to his little brother and works odd jobs to help the family get by. After he finds himself with the opportunity to work at a ranch, he is welcomed by a vibrant community of rodeo performers who openly explore their identities and sexuality. He is especially drawn to Sky, a force of nature who Dylan connects with deeply, as he begins to forge his own identity. Charlie Plummer delivers a transformative performance in this visually arresting story of self-discovery. The film celebrates the beauty of difference and the immense value of a community thriving in a once-hostile environment.
National Anthem is director Luke Gilford's debut feature-length picture. Gilford, who grew up immersed in the heartland’s rodeo culture, first documented the world of the American queer rodeo with a stunning photo essay in 2022. Now, he transitions to film with a visually rich and emotionally charged exploration of rebel identities, offering a heartfelt tribute to the importance of chosen families. A striking debut that resonates deeply.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish (March 12th) and Catalan (March 15th).
A film in the 2025 edition the Americana Film Festival.
