What are the challenges presented by climate change in today’s world? Can we act in time to put a stop to the processes destroying the planet’s resources?
In her latest book, the journalist Naomi Klein challenges some of the myths about climate change and makes an urgent call for measures to be taken against what she sees as humanity’s greatest crisis. The problem is not that it is impossible to stop using fossil fuels, or that greenhouse gas reduction policies are unknown but that, in order to carry out these measures, it will be necessary to cut back on worldwide models of consumption and change the present economic system, which acts as if the planet’s resources were inexhaustible. For Klein, this transformation is, more than anything else, a great opportunity to reconstruct local economies, strengthen our democracies and struggle against the different forms of inequality all around the world.
Naomi Klein is a journalist and writer who is internationally renowned for her bestsellers No logo (2000), The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism (2007) and, recently, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate (2015)
