If you listen closely to Naïka’s discography you’ll likely find some elements that feel familiar, and others that perhaps not so much. This Miami-born artist has so far used her music to express herself equally in English, French and Haitian Creole, because her biography is a story of diaspora, of moves and journeys. She has Haitian roots on her mother’s side and French roots on her father’s, whose work has led Naïka to live in places as diverse as Guadeloupe, Vanuatu, Kenya, France and South Africa.

Perhaps it is because of these ever-changing geographical coordinates that her music has ended up with a truly global sound. The blend of funk, R&B and Afrobeats on her debut album, Eclesia, instantly resonates with anyone who hears it, wherever they come from, because hers is a totally universal language that shares common ground with Rema, Masego, Kali Uchis, Aya Nakamura and Stromae.
