Myriam Gendron is one of the most fascinating and innovative voices in today’s indie-folk scene. Originally from Montreal, her music merges folk traditions with avant-garde elements, creating a unique sound that captivates with its emotional depth and sonic complexity.
She started performing by spending hours playing in the Paris metro, singing songs by Leonard Cohen and others, accompanying herself on guitar. Her passion for music was further strengthened in a bookstore, where she discovered the poetry of Dorothy Parker, an author who inspired her first album, which she recorded alone in her bedroom. Her work captivated listeners with its freshness and humor, laying the foundation for a career that has continued to evolve.
Now, Myriam presents her third album, Mayday, a project that delves deeper into her exploration of diverse sounds and influences. This latest album presents an even more syncretic fusion of her influences. Featuring original songs in both English and French, the album blends traditional elements with avant-garde artistry, accompanied by renowned musicians such as Marisa Anderson and Jim White (Dirty Three).
Although Myriam describes the album as marked by a dark tone, due to the loss of her mother, she always finds a way to transform darkness into a subtle light, full of hope and resilience.
