A father and his two cheerful and imaginative daughters, Satsuki and Mei, go to live in the country while their mother recovers from a medical condition in the hospital. The two sisters make friends with Totoro, a forest spirit, and discover that their new home and surroundings are full of magical surprises.

This hypnotic story, which moves between reality and imagination, is the film that put Hayao Miyazaki on the map as one of the great references of Japanese animation cinema.
