In the closing event of Black Urbanities, voices of urbanism and art vindicate the disruptive potential of blackness in our time and propose the city as a space to reimagine emancipatory black futures.
While urban planning seeks to anticipate the future, life in cities is multiple, diverse, always disputed. In this last session of the Black Urbanities symposium, we will reflect on how black communities have managed to open a future in urban life, in conditions in which they seemed to have none. In the face of the dynamics that seem to anticipate a univocal future, how does blackness break and interrupt these predefined trajectories? Architect and urban planner Mpho Matsipa, in conversation with cultural researcher Elvira Dyangani Ose, filmmaker Anisia Uzeyman and geographer Asha Best, propose the city as a space to reimagine future black emancipators.
Event will be held in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation service to Catalan.
