The aim of MORTALS+ is to build a kaleidoscope of diverse experiences and perspectives that explore the impact of HIV/AIDS today, while also addressing the material and non-material legacies left by the pandemic since its inception. The project places special emphasis on the creation of an artistic research group made up mainly of HIV positive diagnosed individuals and committed professionals who work together to analyze the evolution of social perceptions of the pandemic, as well as the stigma that continues to surround it and emerging challenges — especially for those diagnosed for a longer period of time such as premature aging and bio-psycho-social complexity.
This is a unique artistic and research project exploring on death, illness, cures and life, seeking to create spaces for collective research and experimentation through the activation of multidisciplinary working groups. It is a participatory project of research and collective creation resulting from a collaboration between the artist Albert Potrony — born in Barcelona and developing a career in London since the 1990s in artistic projects involving audiovisual language, installation, participatory processes, play and co-production — and Roser Sanjuan, a cultural manager and artistic mediator specializing in participatory and social art.
