There are artists who prefer the spotlight of big festivals. Molly Nilsson isn’t one of them. Still, wherever she goes, tickets fly. Originally from Sweden but based in Berlin for the past two decades, Nilsson has built a completely independent career, becoming a cult figure both inside and outside the underground scene.
For years, we’ve been unable to get her songs out of our heads thanks to that combination of synth-pop with echoes of the eighties, politically charged lyrics and a voice that sounds like someone singing to you from a rooftop at three in the morning. Nilsson also embodies everything that’s right in this world: she produces her music, releases her albums on her own label (Dark Skies Association), handles the covers, the videos, organizes the tours… and she does it all with a consistency rarely seen in the industry.
If last year she released her tenth studio album, Un-American Activities, this year she’s brightened our lives with "Certe Notti," a single in which she dares to sing in Italian.
