France, late 19th century. Louise Violet is a Parisian teacher, sent to the French countryside. In a place where daily life is linked to the seasons, the land and the crops, she must first convince the inhabitants to send their children to school. With the help of the mayor, the parents and their children eventually accept her. But soon, her past catches up with her. Despite the obstacles, Miss Violet will give her heart and soul into her belief: education is the key to freedom.
"At once deeply rooted in historical realism and punctuated by moments of levity, the film tackles social and cultural tensions that still resonate today." —Julie de Sortiraparis.
