Michael Marcagi, one of the most powerful new voices in American folk-rock, will arrive in Barcelona for the first time offering, a unique opportunity to discover one of the most personal and honest voices on the current American music scene.
Marcagi introduced himself to the world with “The Other Side,” a song that portrays the suffocating atmosphere of life in a small town. However, it was “Scared to Start,” his tribute to taking leaps of faith in life, that turned him into a viral phenomenon, reaching millions of views on TikTok. In just a few weeks, he went from being an emerging talent to signing a record deal with only two tracks released. His debut EP, American Romance, confirms his talent with a timeless sound and emotional depth that have made his music truly special.
Despite having been part of several rock bands in his youth, Marcagi always hesitated to launch a solo career. However, his desire to record more personal songs—which he rarely dared to perform live—ultimately prevailed. Using his own savings, he moved to upstate New York to record in a studio near Woodstock with producer David Baron (Lana Del Rey, The Lumineers, Shania Twain). Together they crafted intimate and heartfelt songs enriched with folk and bluegrass instrumentation, powerful drums and deeply introspective vocal harmonies.
The songs on American Romance blend real-life narratives with emotions like sadness, disillusionment and frustration. In Cincinnati, his hometown, a conservative and deeply religious city, family expectations were very high. The title track of the EP reflects that pressure, portraying the deterioration of a teenage marriage doomed to fail: “Many of my friends got married very young and were separated before they were thirty,” the artist explains.
In a short time, he has gone from recording demos in his bedroom to selling out venues across the United States. Now, with his first European tour, Michael Marcagi is taking his music across the pond.
