London-based Hungarian pianist Matyas Gayer is one of the most prominent figures of his generation. An award winner since his youth, he has forged his own style and a distinctive musical voice from the grandeur of classical piano and modern jazz, combining respect for tradition with freshness and personality in every performance. The trio is completed by Mark Hodgson and Stephen Keogh, who form a versatile rhythm section that has been the first choice of many American artists when visiting Europe. They have toured and recorded albums with Bill Charlap, Jerry Bergonzi, Charles McPherson, Rick Margitza, Dick Oatts, and many more.
Finalist on two occasions at the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition, Matyas has established himself on the London and European scene, performing in the most prestigious clubs and collaborating with musicians of the stature of Eddie Henderson, Ralph Moore, Scott Hamilton, Don Menza, Jim Rotondi, Luis Bonilla, Jesse Davis, Deborah Brown and Carla Cook. His repertoire combines original and standard compositions, reinterpreted with sensitivity and creative freedom.
