Film still from "Master," directed by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit (Bangladesh, 2026).
Set in the forested municipality of Mohoganj, Master follows the steps of Jahir, a beloved high-school history teacher who, driven by socialist ideals and supported by local youth, decides to enter institutional politics. After an unexpected electoral victory that makes him chairman of the local council (upazila), his altruistic intentions collide with bureaucratic realities, pressure groups and entrenched clientelist networks. As he yields to the demands of those who financed his rise and becomes involved in a project to replace a modest suburb with a luxury hotel complex, the narrative charts his moral decline and his transformation from community hero into an authoritarian figure.
With clarity and restraint, director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit shows how ambition corrodes both community and self, revealing the mechanisms through which power reshapes a life.
Film will be screened in its original version with subtitles in Spanish.
A film in the 2026 edition of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona.
