Traditionally tied to men and rooted in Fado, the Portuguese guitar takes on a new voice through the artistry of Marta Pereira da Costa. Her project challenges these conventions and gives the instrument fresh expression.
Performing in a trio—as seen in her acclaimed Tiny Desk Concert—Marta blends the traditional roots of Fado and Portuguese music with jazz, Cape Verdean mornas, Brazilian chorinho and global sounds. She is joined by João José Pita Junior (seven-string guitar) and Carlos Miguel Antunes (percussion).
This concert celebrates the centennial of Portuguese guitar legend Carlos Paredes, with a repertoire honoring his music. It will also feature tracks from the new album Sem Palavras, along with iconic pieces like "Verdes Anos," "Summertime" and "Dia de Feira."
