Film still from "Mano propia," directed by Gory Patiño (Bolivia, 2024).
Mano propia, Gory Patiño (Bolivia, 2024)
Based on the chronicle Tribus de inquisición by Roberto Navia, three stories intersect in a brutal lynching that took place on June 1, 2013 in a town in the Bolivian tropics. Mario Vega, a prosecutor attached to judicial proceedings, tries to prevent the lynching of five young men from Villa Nogales, unjustly accused of stealing a truck. Miguel, the father, and Adrián, one of the accused young men, join Mario to star in this story, which portrays what happens in many places in Bolivia, where “justice by one's own hand” takes many lives.
“Through Bolivian realism, inspired by Italian neorealism, Gory Patiño makes us reflect on the limits of justice and the tensions between state laws and ancestral traditions.” —Santiago Trutat, Opinion.
“Can a terrible story be beautifully presented? Gory Patiño, film director, does it. To achieve this, there is a chronicle by Roberto Navia, the music of Cergio Prudencio and actors and actresses that Bolivian theater allows to the seventh art.” —Isabel Navia Quiroga, Rascacielos Magazine.
