Mozart’s musical comedy, The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), sparkles with mischief and magic. A children's tale for some, a profound meditation on life and death for others, Mozart's last opera is unquestionably a landmark achievement in which he expressed his deep spiritual beliefs.
It is an opera in two acts by with a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder made as a Singspiel, a popular form that includes both singing and spoken dialogue. The work premiered on September 30, 1791 at Schikaneder's Theatre (Vienna), just two months before the composer's premature death.
