The 1919 orchestral version of Maurice Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso is a chromatically rich piece. It evokes the delicate beauty of dawn, becoming progressively livelier and featuring instruments such as the harp, flute and bassoon, with a rhythmic pulse accentuated by percussion.
The foot-tapping phrasing of swing blends with highly expressive melodies in the Piano Concerto composed in 1925 by George Gershwin, a leading figure in the jazz world and author of numerous standards.
The world premiere of Constel·lació de Joan Miró, completed this year by internationally renowned Barcelona-born composer Hèctor Parra, will be followed by Maurice Ravel’s orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition — a journey through scenes that are not entirely imaginary, set in the borderline realm of consciousness where mental activity and the dream world intertwine.
