Los perros, Marcela Saïd (Chile, 2017)
Mariana is a well-off woman who spends her days running an art gallery and learning to ride a horse. Displaced by her father and husband in the family business, Mariana begins to feel attracted to her riding instructor Juan, a retired military man under investigation for his former connection to the Chilean dictatorship. But this new friendship will lead her to encounter the abuses of those years and the invisible walls that protect her family. Mariana will be forced to make a decision regarding her relationship with Juan when she discovers the close bond between him and her father from that time.
“It has a fascinatingly repulsive central figure: a disturbing woman with an angular and deceitful face. (…) The film, volcanic and subtle, perhaps also difficult for certain sensibilities, is embodied in its vigorous symbolism.” Javier Ocaña, —El País.
“An intense, slow-paced story that disturbs by stirring up old wounds not from a critical perspective but from a disturbing empathy with the monstrous. (…) It is in tune with the best of Chilean cinema in recent years.” Alberto Bermejo, —El Mundo.
A film in the 2025 edition of LATcinema Fest. All films are screened in original version without subtitles. General admission is €6 per film, or you can buy a pass for four films for €20.
