The musical thinking of the composer José Manuel López López (Madrid, 1956) boasts a particularly extensive range in temporal dimensions of musical material, incorporating poetic imagery with and a personal and evocative sound. His search for unique sonic worlds and specific processes — which, in many cases, are extremely technically demanding for the performer — set him apart from other composers of the clarinet.
The Barcelona Clarinet Players, a quartet with an extraordinary flexibility and musical skill, take up the challenge of premièring La Trace, a work commissioned by L’Auditori and the CNDM for four clarinets, four Bluetooth speakers and video. (Yes, you read that correctly.) The filmmaker and audiovisual artist Pascal Auger, a former collaborator with French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, completes the premiere with a visual piece specially devised for the music of López López.
