Film still from "Li Cham" directed by Ana Ts’uyeb (Mexico, 2024).
Li Cham represents the rebirth of three Tsotsil women. After losing their babies and family members to patriarchal violence, a part of them died. With the arrival of Zapatismo, their dreams blossomed once more, and they defended what they held most dear: their land and a life of independence and hope.
In her debut film, Ana Ts’uyeb directs a documentary about the lives of three Tsotsil women from her family and their participation in the Zapatista struggle. With a measured yet critical approach, the film offers profound insights into the concept of the "body-territory," labor, and the various forms of patriarchal and structural violence in Chiapas. Themes such as death and rebirth gain significant weight, lending the film even greater critical depth.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Catalan.
A film in the 2026 edition of IndiFest, Barcelona Indigenous Film Festival.
