Lettuce is a psychedelic-tinged 1970s funk collective currently based in New York City. The group began in 1992 in Boston, when its members were studying at the Berklee College of Music.
Four of the original founders remain in the band: bassist Erick “ED” Coomes (who has toured with Britney Spears and The Game), drummer/percussionist Adam Deitch (who has also performed with John Scofield and Wyclef Jean), guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff (who has toured with Lady Gaga and Robert Randolph & The Family Band), and saxophonist Ryan Zoidis (a founding member of Rustic Overtones). Joining this core lineup are keyboardist and occasional vocalist Nigel Hall, who became a member in 2006, and trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom, who joined in 2011.
