LEM Festival 2013
Candor Chasma at LEM Festival 2013Forget about the mainstream pop that plays on 99 percent of the world's radio stations. If you want to hear some truly new sounds, Barcelona's LEM festival is hear to serve up experimental music from across the globe.
The opening concert pays tribute to the late Joan Saura, who died last October and was a regular LEM collaborator from its very first edition (MACBA Auditori, 9pm, €6). He will be remembered by two of his close friends, singer Anna Subirana and Portuguese guitarist Nuno Rebelo, who will perform works accompanied by the poetry of Wisława Szymborska and Hans Magnus Enzensberger.
Other features of the 17-day event include Newcastle group :Zoviet*France, known for the post-industrial, isolationist sound and performing for the first time in Spain (La Fontana, October 3rd, 10pm, €6-€8), and Barcelona natives Tinger Menja Zebra performing from their latest Catalan-language album, Com començar una guerra (How to Start a War, 2012) (KGB, October 4th, 10pm, €6-€8).
