Philosopher Lea Ypi talks with philosopher and journalist Josep Ramoneda about the concept of citizenship in a world of growing inequality and about how to rethink this crisis of democracy beyond traditional frameworks.
Ypi has become a leading voice in contemporary thought on a global scale. A Professor of Philosophy at the London School of Economics, she specializes in critical theory and in issues related to global justice, migration, and democratic theory. In her work, Ypi invites us to reconsider the relationship between migration and citizenship in light of the inequalities generated today at a global level, and she reflects on the need to imagine new forms of political community that do not merely manage or reinforce existing borders, but aspire to transform them.
Born in communist Albania, throughout her career Ypi has combined political philosophy with personal memoir, exploring the concepts of freedom, dignity, and justice through her own experience. The author visits the CCCB on the occasion of the publication of her books Class Borders: Inequality, Migration, and Citizenship in the Capitalist State (Anagrama, 2025), an essay that rethinks borders in times of global crisis, and Indignity: A Recreated Life (Anagrama, 2026), where she continues to trace the thread of her family history.
Event will be held in Catalan and English with simultaneous translation to Catalan.
