The fifth edition of LATcinema Fest is here!

Over seven days the Latin American film festival of Casa Amèrica Catalunya features a selection Latin American films touring the continent from north to south: Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil and Argentina. In the selection you'll find stories that address universal issues such as freedom, the right to fundamental resources, the challenges of youth, mental health and reporting of abuses.

2026 Program

The festival opens with the interwoven stories of Bruno Bini's Brazilian film, Five Types of Fear, and continues on to the imposing Costa Rican rainforest featured in Kim Torres' If We Don't Burn, How to Illuminate the Night. Mexican actor and filmmaker Daniel Giménez Cacho, one of the most influential figures in Ibero-American cinema, headlines the second retrospective of LATcinema Fest, in addition to presenting his directorial debut, Juana.

The films completing the program are Álvaro Olmos Torrico's La hija cóndor, Alejo Moguillansky's Pin de Fartie, Jorge Riquelme's Isla negra, Nayibe Tavares Abel's Colosal, Luis Herrera and Esteban Coloma's Carmela y los caminantes, Daniel Vidal Toche's Anatomía de los caballos, Mariana Rondón and Marité Ugás' Aún es de noche en Caracas, César Augusto Acevedo's Horizon, Tomás Pichardo-Espaillat's Olivia y las nubes, and a session of animated shorts.

A heartbeat felt in bodies, in love, in fear, and in desire drives the fifth edition of LATcinema Fest, revealing that in every story there is a search for justice, for memory, for affection. A cinema that looks at what hurts and, even so, chooses to believe in people. 

Following in the footsteps of last year, LATcinema Fest presents in 2026 a new retrospective dedicated to one of the most emblematic figures of Latin American audiovisual production and, in particular, of Mexican cinema: Daniel Giménez Cacho. A Spanish-Mexican actor and director, his career spans film, theater, and television, and is distinguished by a repertoire of complex and unique performances that have been widely recognized by critics and audiences alike.

From the beginning of his career, Giménez Cacho has explored a wide variety of characters, film genres, and historical contexts, working under the direction of key filmmakers of contemporary cinema. Among them are Alfonso Cuarón (Sólo con tu pareja, Y tu mamá también), Guillermo del Toro (Cronos), and Alejandro González Iñárritu (Bardo, falsa crónica de unas pocas verdades). This versatility has also led him to participate in important international productions, collaborating with directors such as Pedro Almodóvar (La mala educación, 2004), Pablo Berger (Blancanieves, 2012), Lucrecia Martel (Zama, 2017), Luis Ortega (El Jockey, 2024), and Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Memoria, 2021), where he shared the screen with Tilda Swinton.

Beyond the thematic breadth of his filmography, Giménez Cacho has shown a consistent interest in stories linked to social issues, a concern that is particularly evident in his directorial debut, Juana (2025), which LATcinema Fest will have the pleasure of premiering in Catalunya. In it, the filmmaker addresses some of the open wounds of contemporary Mexican society, such as violence against journalists, femicide, political corruption and child abuse, reaffirming his artistic commitment to a critical cinema deeply involved with its time.

All films are screened in original version without subtitles. General admission is €6 per film, or you can buy a pass for four films for €20.
