With their third studio album, simply titled III, French band Last Train channels a visceral and cathartic energy. Recorded in an abandoned, unheated castle in the midst of a winter cold snap, the album was born from an urgent need to return to rock's roots after a hiatus marked by the orchestral experimentation of Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. This new work reflects a rawer, more direct approach, with a clinical and precise sound that enhances its rage and contained emotion. Written in just three months and recorded track by track, III is the result of a meticulous creative process, where emotional intensity blends with calculated production. It's a powerful and uncompromising experience, designed to be experienced live, with songs that combine power, melancholy, and contrast."We wanted the audience to feel something real, to react ", they say. And they've achieved it.
Formed in Alsace in the 2010s, Last Train is made up of Jean-Noël Scherrer (vocals/guitar), Julien Peultier (guitar), Timothée Gérard (bass), and Antoine Baschung (drums). With a career spanning over 15 years together, they debuted in 2017 with Weathering, followed by The Big Picture in 2019, albums that positioned them as one of the most intense bands on the French rock scene. Invited to share the stage with names like Muse, Placebo, and Johnny Hallyday, they also run their own label, touring company, and visual production company. Their versatility was demonstrated in 2024 with the orchestral project Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, although their essence remains steadfast: four musicians who live for live rock. With III, Last Train returns to its purest core, reaffirming its identity and its commitment to honest, emotional, and powerful music.
