For just under a month, the public gallery La Xina Art will present an intriguing and artistically unique exhibition by Xesco Mercé. This multidisciplinary artist will showcase works that encompass his recurring concept of ‘the inexplicable search’. Also covering themes of gender and geography, Mercé uses past paintings (landscapes, portraits and still lifes) as a base for new conceptual and formal explorations. One notable piece, ‘Les grandes batailles’, features a large format picture with over 15 illustrations of old geographical and scientific atlases, combined with a peculiar portrait of an unknown post-war lady.
Set up in 1997 by none other than Xesco Mercé himself, La Xina Art is a non-profit cultural association dedicated to bringing together artists from different origins and ideologies, with the aim of building a network of cultural reflection.
