For the first time at the Barcelona Jazz Festival, the Artist Portrait is not featuring a single individual, but a group. This year it's La Vella Dixieland; founded in 1980 the group is celebrating its 45th anniversary. Inspired by Duke Ellington, who said that a bandleader is like a cook who mixes ingredients in the right proportions to enhance the final dish, La Vella is celebrating these 45 years by inviting other musicians to create a four-concert series that simultaneously showcases the history and present of jazz in Catalunya.
The fourth and final stage, a grand finale at La Paloma, will feature special guests Josep Traver (guitar), Ricard Gili (trumpet), Irene Reig (alto saxophone), Joan Mar Sauqué (trumpet), Pablo Martin (trombone) and Namina (vocals).
