Lamentación primera y última by Javier Velasco
La Tardor de l’art 2010 - Javier Velasco Home
The galleries of Catalunya have a cunning plan. As a way of making art more accessible to the people of Barcelona, they have agreed to exhibit one piece of work from one of their artists but it must be made with vinyl. Two such respective galleries and artists are La Galería Alonso Vidal with Sara Huete and La Galería MiTO with Javier Velasco.
Huete has submitted the piece Música lenta, depicting the unusual combination of an elegant woman and a turtle on a vinyl record. Javier Velasco has gone with a more morbid theme in his piece Lamentación primera y última. A bent and misshapen vinyl record has two small trees growing from it; one with a swing and one with a noose, symbolising the birth but future death of the vinyl industry. Other works are at your viewing pleasure in galleries across Catalunya throughout October. With free entry and doors open to anyone and everyone, see which one is your favourite and have an arty day out across the city.
