La Diada
Barcelona City Centre 08001 Barcelona

The national day of Catalunya on September 11th is celebrated with a public holiday, and various events and celebrations throughout the day, beginning with the traditional laying of wreaths by dignitaries, including the Mayor of Barcelona, at the monument to Rafael Casanova. This year, the Ajuntament and the Parlament de Catalunya will further celebrate the day with a joint ceremony on the basic human rights of democracy and freedom. This event (to be held on September 10th at 9.30pm at Mercat del Born) will include readings and musical performances from prominent cultural figures. A number of government buildings, such as the Catalan Parliament, will also hold an open house day for the general public. Find the full programme here.
For their annual demonstration, this year, L'Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC) will create the shape of a giant cross at the intersection of Passeig de Gracia and Carrer d’Aragó with the help of the 200,000 people expected to attend. The motto is ‘La Diada del Sí’, in light of the upcoming independence vote.
